In 1997 she has received the title “Master of Bookbinding” in two fields: “Design Bookbinding” and “Decorative papers”.

In the U.S.A. she worked for 10 years in the family Studio, Gallery and School of Bookbinding and Restoration. She has organized international book arts’ exhibitions, taught artistic bookbinding and was often invited to teach at Bookbinding Seminars in U.S.A. and Czech Republic.

After returning to the Czech Republic in 1996, she has been working in the family business - Sobotas’ Book Arts Studio and Gallery in Loket. Jarmila is the initiator of the Society of Czech Bookbinders, founded in 1997. She is in charge of Seminars organization.

Jarmila is well-known for her personal, sensitive and psychological approach to artistic bindings. In the area of artistic bookbinding she also has made her mark with her unique, dramatic book paintings, which integrate the book with a painting which illustrates scenes from the literary work.

Her work is often published in bookbinding magazines, and is represented in many private and public collections in the Czech Republic, England, Italy, Israel, France, Nederland, Canada, Germany, Greece, Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican and U.S.A.

She has exhibited in more than 80 group and 20 individual exhibits around the world (including Prima Mostra Internazionale di Rilegatura D´Arte in Italia, in Ancona, Italy, 1998, where she won the Silver Medal for the binding „ L´Infinito“ and V. Bienale Mondiale de la Reliure d´Art en Pays Basque in Saint Jean- De – Luz, Francie in 1999, where she won The First Prize in the category Original Book Object for the binding „ Cyrano de Bergerac“ )

She has won thirteen major prizes for her work.

Art critic Phdr. Anežka Fialová wrote: "The design bindings of Jarmila Sobotova are often closely connected with a painting adjustment of expressive feature, with the dominance of literary work and its characters and the use of painting expression. Compositional forethought, earthy colourfulness and a certain energy in her work empower the general approach of her artistic creation in bookbinding. She also makes her own decorative papers."
